Our story proves that real love exists

In January 2019, I first met Alex in Abuja during NYSC, at a general CDS meeting that happened after the compulsory three-week orientation camp. Funny enough, I almost didn’t go. It was a one-off general meeting in Kubwa specifically, and the distance alone was enough to make me consider staying home. My dad then left his car and driver to take me and one of my friends there and pick us up afterward. (Shoutout to my dad for unknowingly playing matchmaker.)

At the time, we were in the same CDS group, so everyone had to take attendance before leaving the premises. Once that was done, my friend and I found a quiet corner of the hall to sit while we waited for my dad’s driver. I was completely exhausted, glued to my phone, and counting down the minutes until I could go home. Then my friend casually said, “I think someone is about to come and meet you.” I looked up, saw nobody, and went right back to my phone.

A few moments later… she was right. He walked over, introduced himself, and we had a brief conversation before he asked for my number. I gave it to him, thinking it was just another random NYSC interaction.

Well… it turns out it wasn’t so random after all. And the rest, as they say, is history.

January 16th, 2019. What was meant to be another uneventful day in Abuja. But NYSC were up to no good, as per. They made me go all the way to Kubwa for “CDS” (more like election scam, but that’s for another day). Already thinking to myself, why am I here? I have to make this an in-and-out mission. I get there, and obviously, I wasn’t having that, so I plotted the fastest way out of there, until I spotted her.

I stared for a while, I will not lie, then I made the decision to approach her. A couple of failed attempts later, Uche and I decided to move. Long story short we somehow got the ginger to turn around to approach her and her friend. So I put on my best IJGB impression and went to go talk to her. And that was the beginning of the battle. However, my name is Alexander, so you know how that goes. I obviously won that battle and eventually the girl. And that’s all she wrote.
